DENTAL TECHNOLOGYSusie Shin Dental Care
Digital x-rays have become the modern standard of care in dentistry. Digital radiography is quicker, safer, more comfortable, and convenient than traditional x-rays, They provide 80% less radiation than traditional x-rays, and reduces the need for additional x-rays. Digital x-rays also provide more diagnostic information to Dr. Shin and her team of hygienists. Cavities, bone loss, abscesses, and various other non-painful dental conditions are more clearly seen with digital x-rays, allowing you to make the best decision for your treatment. Many dental conditions do not have symptoms, and cannot be seen with the naked eye. Radiographs can be used to detect these conditions early on, allowing for more treatment choices. X -rays taken digitally are easier to store and share than old methods of x-rays. Digital radiography is also environmentally friendlier. By using electronic sensors and computers, the need for processing chemicals and lead waste is eliminated. Dental x-rays are crucial in assessing and treating your oral health. It’s been said that a picture speaks a thousand words. At Dr. Susie Shin D.D.S., M.A.G.D.’s San Francisco dental office, we use a slim camera designed for the mouth to photograph things we may notice during your dental exam. Things such as old fillings that are breaking down, tooth cracks, a broken tooth, tooth abscesses, oral lesions, tooth decay, and tooth wear are easily seen with use of the camera. This lets us show the patient exactly what we are seeing, and clearly explain our concerns or recommendations for treatment, allowing you to make the best choice for your treatment. It also allows us to track visual changes over an extended period of time. Using the camera is painless, quick, and many patients appreciate the supplemental information a photograph provides. Ask Dr. Shin or your hygienist to take an intra-oral tour of your mouth at your next dental exam!
Dental Laser Therapy
Lasers are used to treat a variety of dental issues including gum infection, sensitive teeth and cold sores. Lasers are commonly used to kill bacteria hiding under the gums. Diode lasers can be used after a healthy dental cleaning or deep cleaning to kill any residual bacteria, reduce inflammation, comfortably clean away diseased tissue, increase circulation, and shorten overall healing time. Laser therapy is a safe, gentle, and non-invasive supplemental dental treatment Dr. Shin offers her patients for optimal results. If your teeth have sensitivity to cold or sweets, diode lasers can desensitize them. The laser light is shone on the surfaces of exposed roots, painlessly desensitizing the area without damaging the tooth. Laser desensitization is an easy way to get you back to enjoying the foods and drinks you love without the pain. An unsightly cold sore can form at any time. Treating it with a laser immediately at the beginning of an outbreak can significantly shorten the duration of your cold sore. With flexible evening and weekend dental appointments, Dr. Shin can treat your cold sore when you feel the first “tingle” of it forming.
